Frequently Asked Questions

Here you’ll find answers to common questions from our nonprofit partners about program implementation, donor experience, data security, and more.

Nonprofit Program Implementation

How much does it cost to partner with FreeWill?

Our pricing is customized based on your organization’s size and needs. We strive to make our platform accessible to nonprofits of all sizes. Schedule a conversation with our team to discuss your goals and receive a tailored proposal.

What is the turnaround time to launch after signing?

You’ll receive your co-branded estate planning and non-cash giving webpages within weeks of signing your contract, and your first campaign can be live in as little as 30 days.

What marketing support and services does FreeWill provide?

A lot! As a partner, you’ll be paired with a dedicated strategist and content writer to make planned and non-cash giving marketing easy. It's like adding an experienced planned giving marketer to your team without having to hire one.

Your strategist helps you build a customized marketing and outreach plan based on your goals, using proven strategies from thousands of partner campaigns. Then, your content writer creates ready-to-use emails, brochures, social posts, and more — all in your organization's voice — so you can spend less time creating marketing materials and more time building donor relationships.

What makes FreeWill different from other planned and non-cash giving competitors?

FreeWill has a proven track record of helping nonprofits generate millions in planned and non-cash gift commitments. Today, more than 2,400 nonprofits partner with FreeWill, and we’ve raised more than $14.7 billion in bequest commitments. We’re also the largest online will provider in the United States, with over 1.5 million completed estate plans. See some of our partners' success stories.

Can FreeWill support Canadian nonprofits or non-U.S. organizations?

Not at this time. FreeWill currently supports only U.S.-based nonprofits because our tools are designed to comply with U.S. laws and tax regulations.

Donor Experience

Are FreeWill’s estate planning tools really free?

Yes. FreeWill’s estate planning tools are completely free to use, thanks to the support of our nonprofit partners.

Do donors have to leave a charitable gift to use FreeWill?

No. Anyone can use FreeWill’s estate planning tools for free, regardless of whether they choose to include a charitable gift in their plans. That said, many individuals do choose to leave a gift to a cause or mission they believe in.

How does my organization receive donor-advised fund (DAF), stock, or cryptocurrency gifts through FreeWill?

FreeWill simplifies the process of accepting complex, non-cash gifts from your donors.

Gifts of appreciated securities, including stock and cryptocurrency, are liquidated by FreeWill and the proceeds are distributed to your organization as cash.

DAF grants are typically delivered by check or electronic fund transfer (EFT) within 1–4 weeks.
